A collaboration between Target Creative, Syyn Labs and David Stark Design, this project married holiday fun with up-to-the-minute technology. Conceived as a space where holiday windows come alive, Wonderland featured games and spectacles based on popular toys as well as plenty of surprise and delight moments. Technology was a major engine for the experience - every guest received an RFID-enabled medallion as they entered which allowed them to shop, share socially and receive special gifts. There were innovative photo opportunities, interactive games and the opportunity to customize gifts. 

Kiehls sponsors a yearly junket for Asian beauty editors to discover new products and reconnect with their classics. A multiday series of events culminated in the launch of a new day oil which featured sunflower oil as a primary ingredient. The David Stark Design creative team conceived of an afternoon that highlighted the product, allowed for many opportunities for social media interaction, and made the information feel fresh and relevant. The centerpiece was a field of sunflowers placed below a gigantic angled mirror that allowed guests to create unique images for Instagram. Other activities included an art gallery of classic Kiehls illustrations that guests could color in themselves and a bike powered smoothie bar.

David Stark Design collaborated with Target for a public launch of their hugely successful designer collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer. Tasked with bringing Palm Beach style to NYC in April, we conceived of a rich program of interactions and shopping. Bryant Park, centrally located in midtown Manhattan, was the location for an influencer party, pop up store and public launch. The party and pop up were held in the transformed Bryant Park Grill and the park itself was delightfully updated with fun Lilly decor and activities for the public to enjoy. 

American Express needed a way to engage and educate their consumer products division. Consulting for the Extra Extra agency, I created a bold visual language that defined each of their consumer profiles and extended it throughout 3-D vignettes, graphics, event visuals and collateral. Each consumer profile was given a color and an icon and as a way to identify and distinguish them from other groups. As a way to bring these market segments to life, we created engaging  vignettes that highlighted relevant facts about each group in a lively and engaging manner.

To promote Ultrabooks, the family of laptops featuring Intel technology, a global roadshow was conceived. Working with Vice Media Group/Virtue Worldwide, I guided partnerships with cutting-edge digital artists to create custom applications and games that would highlight the unique attributes of the Ultrabooks. Additionally we created the web presence and social media initiatives for the program. Kicking off in New York, the tour went to Chicago, London, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai and Moscow garnering tens of thousands of in-person interactions and millions of impressions.

As Veuve Clicquot's leading sponshorship, and featuring the participation of Price Harry, this event garnered international press and created tremendous awareness for the brand. Involved with every step along the way from how to create a proper polo field on Governor's Island to managing an international VIP crowd including the Prince, Madonna and Marc Jacobs, Overland Entertainment ensured the event went off seamlessly and ithas been an important brand initiative ever since.

To launch multiple lines of summer product, Target tapped David Stark Design to design a temporary store inside a former historic inn in Bridgehampton, NY. The store design embraced the specificity of the location with every detail: custom designed wallpapers, antiques altered with cheeky insertions of the Target bullseye, and bespoke display cabinetry. Open from Memorial Day through July 4th weekend, it was a tremendous success for Target, selling out much of its product and presenting the brand in a new light to an audience of influencers.

Google wanted to have a major presence at both political conventions and MKG designed experiences for them that expressed "Googleyness" while presenting an elaborate range of functionality. Meeting spaces, snack bars, a YouTube studio, and areas for product demos were created to relieve pain points for convention-goers and provide a fabulous way to display a range of Google products. Each was designed to coexist in fun and functional spaces that were the talk of Tampa and Charlotte.

For Wired's annual holiday pop-up store, MKG secured a massive empty retail space in Times Square. The challenges were many: bring a beloved and forward thinking publication to life in a new way, showcase emerging technologies and products, incorporate the needs of advertisers, display hundreds of products within a coherent and fun shopping experience all while providing multiple points of engagement that would have consumers coming back again and again. My creative inspiration for all this was the pixel. Flowing from that, the team reinterpreted the concept continually over multiple points throughout the space: the exterior signage, product display, lighting, graphics and structural elements. 

The Robin Hood Foundation, dedicated to eradicating poverty in New York City, holds an enormously successful fundraising benefit every year. In 2015 it raised over $101 million dollars to help fund a vast array of initiatives to help with homelessness, literacy, job training, food banks and more. The benefit is help in the Javitz Center in order to accommodate the evening's over 4000 guests.  2015's theme was TOGETHER - celebrating the way in which New Yorkers from all walks of life work in concert to help eachother. Working with Brandon Stanton of Humans of New York, the decor for the event featured thousands of images of New Yorkers and stories from some of the programs that Robin Hood supports. Guests at the event were able to insert themselves into this photographic collage by taking their pictures in front of New York City backdrops and then seeing their images appear in a digital composite on the screens throughout the evening.

Debuting during Fall Fashion Week 2012, this pop-up took over and transformed the ground floor of the Treasure and Bond store in Soho. It showcased the collections curated by GQ and sold on Nordstrom.com, presented for the first time in a physical location. Working closely with the Creative Director of GQ, we created a space that brought to life the spirit of the publication - elegant and assured masculinity with a sense of fun. We created conceptualized the store, created custom displays and furniture, sourced vintage items and created mini shops within the space for outside vendors.

When Pernod Ricard wanted to launch a new flavor of Absolut, we created elegant and inventive designs which were on brand while not feeling "branded."  We created a dinner for top corporate executives along with consumer launches in New York and LA. In all of the environments, the golden apple motif was front and center but deployed in unique ways: a fantastical orchard within a raw event space, a glamourous dinner centered around a massive bespoke chandelier, and a lively club scene peppered with subtle and clever brand touches.

To launch their new all-wheel-drive car, Jaguar wanted an experience that would garner major media attention and engage consumers in a novel way. We gave them that and more: a massive "snow globe" in lower Manhattan in the middle of August. The car was unveiled in the middle of a synthetic ice rink that stayed open for days, giving the public a chance to skate in the summer and engage in a wide range of family-friendly activities while learning about the new models.

Teen Vogue came to my team with an exciting challenge: create the first-ever space exclusively for teens within New York Fashion Week. We needed to present an experience that was as much "Vogue" as it was "Teen" and that gave attendees a sense of privileged backstage access. The design was inspired by the process clothing designers go through in creating their collections. The clothing was presented as oversized pinups on fashion illustrations, guests were encouraged to create their own looks using a custom digital application, and shows were live-streamed into the space. The overall effect gave attendees a sense of being on hand for the moment of creative inspiration.

Created as a temporary retail space for the progressive eyewear company during the holiday shopping season, the Holiday Spectacle Bazaar was a fun and scrappy manifestation of a brand that previously had no stand-alone retail presence. Conceptualized with Partners & Spade, the Bazaar took over an abandoned garage on the edge of Soho and included intensive programming in addition to evolving retail design so that guests would experience the space differently every day it was open.

Target tapped David Stark Design to help promote their fresh grocery options through a multi-city summer tour. We developed a fun visual language based on collages of fresh fruits and vegetables and deployed it across the many touch points of the huge activation. Strategically, we focused on getting the new product into guests' hands, driving back to retail, social sharing and lots of moments of surprise and delight to build brand love.

While at MKG, I oversaw the design of fashion shows and presentations for Pamella Roland for several seasons. Working with the inspiration of each season's collection, we created a dramatic setting for the clothes that supported the collection's concept without overwhelming the clothes.

Manfrotto is a photography equipment company primarily known to industry professionals. To introduce their products to the general public, they wanted to host an event geared toward influencers. A panel discussion about creativity featuring well known figures including Marcus Samuelsson and Simon Doonen segued into a party for hundreds of New York's creative elite. Interspersed throughout the party were photo sets created for well known photo bloggers. The celebrity bloggers photographed guests throughout the night and posted the images on their social media, amplifying the reach of the event from hundreds to tens of thousands

The Robin Hood Foundation is a charity focused on alleviating poverty in New York City. The annual gala is an opportunity to raise tens of millions of dollars in a single night.  David Stark Design transformed the Jacob K. Javitz Center into a fantasy environment which amplified the excitement level for guests but also reminded them of the important work done by the Foundation. This year's decor was a chalkboard version of New York City, painstakingly rendered over the course of months, that interjected Robin Hood's messaging within the urban landscape. As an additional level of interaction, all the guests were given chalk and invited to add their inspirational messages to the city. 

This store, built in a raw retail space in Rockefeller Center, was the very first pop-up store in the US, kicking off one of the biggest trends in experiential marketing and retail strategy. Created to launch Isaac Mizrahi's first collection for Target, it was a runaway success, selling out of merchandise several times over and creating an astonishing level of media coverage. The store highlighted Target's involvement with clever inclusion of the trademark bullseye but departed from their established store design in every other way. Tyvek, construction grade pressboard and moving blankets were used as design materials, subtly referencing the transitory nature of the space, their neutral color palette creating a background that allowed the brightly colored merchandise to pop.

The opening of Herzog and De Meuron's building for the Walker Art Center was a moment of great importance in the worlds of art and architecture, culminating in days of celebrations for international artists, collectors and celebrities.  The twin centerpieces of the festivities were two nights of dinners in a raw space that would eventually become staff offices. Wanting to reference -  but in no way compete with - the groundbreaking architecture, David Stark Design came up with a scheme that took its inspiration from the perforated metal and laser cut patterns of the space. A landscape of thousands of hand-drilled paint cans became a luminous cityscape on the long tables. The room, draped in black and lit dramatically, was punctuated with patterned mirrors creating a sense of ambiguity about the edges of the space.
